  • Wonder Man's co-creator has admitted he doesn't know why it's being released all at once
  • All eight episodes of the Marvel TV show will drop on launch day
  • Andrew Guest hopes it'll be the "right choice for this show"

Wonder Man's showrunner has revealed he doesn't know the reasoning for every episode being released on launch day.

Speaking exclusively to TechRadar, Andrew Guest explained he wasn't privy to conversations about how the Disney+ show would be released. Nonetheless, Guest said he hoped it'll be the "right choice" for a series that's been labeled as a half-hour sitcom by people both inside and outside Marvel Studios.

Wonder Man, which comes out on January 27/28, isn't the first Marvel TV show to air in full on its release date. Indeed, every installment of Echo, which comprised just five episodes compared to Wonder Man's eight, dropped on day one of its arrival in January 2024.

Other Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) TV Originals have had different release formats, too, with some premiering with one episode and others launching with their first two chapters.

Meanwhile, Ironheart, one of last year's Marvel TV releases, dropped in two parts, with each being made up of three episodes apiece. Clearly, there's no 'one size fits all' approach when it comes to the comic giant's TV offerings on one of the world's best streaming services.

Nevertheless, this is only the second time that a small-screen Marvel Studios project will launch in full. Aside from the fact that a binge drop might suit a series whose episodic runtimes – end credits sequences notwithstanding – only range from 20 to 30 minutes, why is the Marvel Phase 6 TV show landing all at once?

"That's above my pay grade," Guest said with a grin. "As far as I know, there was no plan one way or the other [to release it weekly or in bulk].

"I don't think it's necessarily even up to Marvel in terms of how Disney wants to release and market it, or how many episodes they would like to release at one time," he added. "So, we'll see. I think there are positives and negatives to a full drop versus weekly episodic releases, and hopefully this is the right choice for this show."
