Toluca has been a force in Liga MX thus far, which got them one of the coveted pre-seeded spots in the CONCACAF Champions Cup. They won the 2025 Liga MX Clausura and were the highest-seeded of the Liga MX champions. They are currently riding an 11-game unbeaten streak, going all the way back to their 2-1 win over UANL in the 2025 Apertura Finals. In the 2026 Clausura season, Toluca is 7-3-0, having won five consecutive matches.
San Diego FC faced off against Liga MX club UNAM in Round one, posting a 4-1 home win in the first leg, while dropping a 1-0 decision on the road in the second, ultimately moving onto the Round of 16 via aggregate. In MLS play, San Diego has been utterly dominant, posting shutouts in all three of their matches, with a 5-0 win over CF Montreal, a 2-0 win over St. Louis City, and finally a 1-0 road win over Sporting KC.
