By Shaun McAvoyShareNewsweek is a Trust Project memberThe Toronto Blue Jays' offseason was headlined by signing star pitcher Dylan Cease and Kazuma Okamoto, but the defending American League champions also have an intriguing prospect ready to make an impact in his climb up the farm system.
The big-name Blue Jays remain a World Series contender, but the team also has a solid farm system full of depth, including international free agent infielder Juan Sanchez.
Sanchez signed with the Blue Jays organization in January 2025 and appeared for the team in the Dominican Summer League this summer. The 18-year-old infielder impressed this summer, slashing .341/.439/.565 with eight home runs and 40 RBIs across 56 games and ensured his stay in the Dominican would likely be for only one season.
Sanchez is the No. 7 ranked prospect in the Blue Jays farm system, with MLB.com's Jim Callis, Sam Dykstra and Jonathan Mayo predicting that the 18-year-old will crack the MLB's Top 100 Prospects list in 2026.
"Toronto’s praise of the 18-year-old infielder has been consistent since his signing in January 2025, and he certainly helped fuel that fire with his 1.004 OPS in the Dominican Summer League last season," Callis, Dykstra and Mayo wrote Wednesday. "Now that he’s stateside, Sanchez will continue to show a promising mix of discipline and power and not only reach the Florida State League in his age-18 season but jump into the Top 100, giving Toronto three infielders in that group alongside Arjun Nimmala and JoJo Parker."
Sanchez boasts a balanced right-handed swing and is one of the top hitters in the organization to watch this season as he likely comes stateside. The Blue Jays may have struck gold with the intriguing 18-year-old infielder, but only time will tell.
